The Adventures of Tiller and Turnbuckle

Grandpa Dachshund tells his seven grand puppies about the adventures of Tiller, the dachshund who loves to sail, and Turnbuckle, the calico cat who saves his life. Tiller sails his boat, Dogspeed, down the Chesapeake Bay to St. Simons Island, Georgia. That's when the accident happens, and Turnbuckle must swim to Tiller's rescue. She and Tiller become friends, but trouble follows when Dogspeed disappears. The two set out on a quest to find the missing boat, but Tiller gets lost and encounters a man-eating alligator and two wacky seagulls. Things go from bad to worse when Tiller is captured by a gang of parrot pirates. He must find a way to escape if he is ever going to find Dogspeed, but Tiller is in for a big surprise!

The Adventures of Tiller and Turnbuckle: Adventure One St. Simons Island is a colorful tale by local author Michael E. Paul, intended for younger audiences, ages 9 - 12.

After growing up in Baltimore, Maryland, author Michael E. Paul chose a life at sea and served in the U.S. Naval Reserves aboard the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Franklin D. Roosevelt. After his life aboard ship, he returned to his home port, bought a sailboat, and started sailing the Chesapeake Bay while pursuing a career in teaching. He received his master’s degree in education from the Johns Hopkins University and now teaches at Calvert School in Baltimore, where he has taught third through sixth grade for the past thirty-four years. To his students, he is known as Pirate Paul. Mike lives with his wife, Betsy, aboard their boat, Godspeed, in Baltimore harbor where he does much of his writing.
