St. Patrick's Day CardsThe history of St. Patrick's Day

St. Patrick's Day is an annual feast day which celebrates Saint Patrick, the most commonly recognized of the patron saints of Ireland and a bishop who ministered in northern Ireland until his death in the mid-fifth century.

Originally, St. Patrick's Day was celebrated as a religious holiday. Although secular celebrations now exist, the holiday remains a religious observance in Ireland, for both the Church of Ireland and Roman Catholic Church.

In the mid-1990s, the Irish government began a campaign to use St. Patrick's Day to showcase Ireland and its culture. Since 1996, there has been a greater emphasis on celebrating and projecting an inclusive notion of "Irishness" rather than an identity based around traditional religious or ethnic allegiance.

Whether you plan to celebrate this year with corned beef and cabbage, a pint of Natty Boh or reflecting with loved ones upon the blessings in your life, you can get appropriately festive with a quick visit to Greetings & Readings of Hunt Valley. We'll see you then! Happy St. Patrick's Day!
