for artist Mary Deacon Opasik's Birdland.
The David Simpson Gallery at Greetings & Readings will feature its sixth art exhibition from June 26 through August 5, 2012.
Local artist Mary Deacon Opasik will provide the artwork for the exhibit entitled Birdland, and an opening reception with free refreshments will be held on Friday, June 29 from 6:30 to 9 p.m.
Music in the gallery will be played by guitarist Greg Pierce. Catering by Barrett's Grill.
Artist Mary Deacon Opasik describes the new exhibit: "Bird imagery, with its rich abundance of visual metaphor, has always fascinated me, and has now taken shape in Birdland, my latest series of wall assemblages.
"As if risen from the ashes like a phoenix, a multitude of found objects - cast-off furniture parts, aged metals and hardware - have materialized into avian forms of fancy, shaped by my vision and the tools and processes of my studio, which together attempt to re-interpret and honor the unique histories betrayed by each weathered component.
"Most of the materials in each assemblage were found in local wooded areas as I walked my dog; some were passed along to me by dear friends. My tools and processes are simple: files, chisels, band saws and sanders used sparingly on disparate pieces bolted, riveted, screwed, brazed, and occasionally welded."
All of the artwork displayed is for sale. If you wish to purchase a particular piece, please see a salesperson in Customer Service, upstairs at Greetings & Readings. Because the work displayed is part of an ongoing exhibition, the work may not be removed from the gallery until the end of the show. At that time, you may return to pick up your artwork.
